| WORKS (iniquity) Doing good works for God. Joining a church to get on God's good side. Trying to be a good person. |
Faith Knowing that what God did for you on the cross is the only action that can give you eternal life. Faith opens communication between you and God. |
You may feel like you are doing the right thing, and you think you will go to heaven by doing good works, but beware; this is worldly reasoning, and it will lead a person to spiritual death.
In the Bible, God says:
"There is a way which seems right to a man, but in the
end it leads to death" (Proverbs 14:12 NIV).
"For by grace are you saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast" (Ephesians 2:8-9).
Sadly, most people try to save themselves
through religion.
In Matthew 7:13-14, Jesus said, "Enter ye in at the strait
gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction,
and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate,
and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find
it".
In Matthew 7:21-23, Jesus also said, "Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity".
Webster's Dictionary defines the
word "iniquity" as: want of equity, injustice, a sin or crime, wickedness.
By Jesus carefully using the word
"iniquity", he condemned wickedness, and he condemned the actions
of people who do good works looking for a reward.
Beware of False Prophets and Worldly Religions!
The Bible says in 1 John 4:1 "Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world".
Speaking of the false prophets, 1 John 4:5 says, "They are of the world; therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them".
All religions of the world push worldly reasoning in their plans of salvation; which is, earning your salvation by doing good works. Christianity, on the other hand, is not a religion, but is a relationship with God. God's plan is to accept Jesus by faith, and then do good works out of love. People who are not saved are motivated to do good works out of fear of losing their souls.
God wants to have a personal relationship with you, but being religious will not make the relationship happen, and going to church every Sunday will not get you into heaven.
